@All. @None.

It's all simple actually.

The present education system is conditioning the youth of today to work (or slave) for someone else (which mostly comprises of uneducated or ruthless businessmen in need of people with knowledge). As a result conformity(to be average), the need to follow rules and discipline of the individual is inculcated at an early age - which just breeds a bunch of educated students who will meekly follow the whims and fancies of their future "Malik" - no questions asked.

The roots of a society that is dependent on an elite few.

This is how slavery in the age of democracy operates - you have the choice to be the slave of another! ;-)

PS: The problems that are addressed in this forum are just by-products of the real issue. Our education system needs to be changed to accommodate a free thinking society which would value openness, ethics and appreciate the value of being self sufficient above all else. This is the way forward for a better Sri Lanka.

I totally agree with you on the importance of extra curricular events. There's just so much emphasis on "superstars" that keeps the others out of trying out different things and becoming more rounded people. It's a good thing to try out different opportunities, since it's likely you otherwise run the risk of missing out on that one thing you're really good at.

Things getting worse.
For example earlier there were only one or two mistakes rarely in a exam paper. Now mistakes in every paper.

@Lakshan

>I don’t know, why these people are so ignorant.

No wonder bro. "Poster boys" can only handle posters. When it comes to anything else (forget education) they suck. I know a zonal education *director* who was a "poster boy".

Well written Lakshan. I wrote a blog post at http://bit.ly/riDnV after reading this. Was going to comment here until I saw that the content was more oriented on me. So I made it a blog post.

Yasith,

I read about exam paper issue in last weekend paper. It is funny to see they have printed swear words in some papers, and also there in a Buddhism paper they were mistakes that turns as insults to Lord Buddha.

I don't know, why these people are so ignorant. They should've sacked immediately.

It's a headache, they are banning martial arts, now mobiles, and then in a couple of months, all technology will be banned. The school system is really screwed up, in some girls schools, students can't talk with guys, if they are wearing their uniform (not very practical though). This is not leading to the forming of a better society, but these steps would ensure the making of very ignorant individuals.

And finally, the ministry should pay more attention to real education, the AL papers are not marked correctly. And I just saw today on news (Swarnavahini), that there was a hell of a lot of mistakes in the term test papers given today.

Anyway, I'm also going to rant about these issues, in a student's perspective (which would be ignored, of course). But still that doesn't mean we should stop ranting.

Cheers.

Screw schools. They ruined me (Mostly the last 5 years or so). We don't have an education system. Neither we have a future.

Anyway, great post.
