This is a very broad and a very sensitive issue.I have seen students who r suffering as a result of their parents forcing them to do things which they don't like and they are not good at. Coz at the end of the day it is that individual who has to suffer, not their parents or any other. Furthermore I appreciate your effort in addressing this very complicated matter. Thanks

Hi brother,

I’m 100% agreed with what Laknath has stated and thanks Lakshan coz u ve analysed the scenario in LK and written the it explaining the available alternatives. But AFAIK and AFAI‘ve seen, most of the people are still looking at AL as the only solution. They have forgot that there are other streams like IT, Management, Marketing, BPO, Telecommunication, etc... which you can enter w/out having very high A/L results. The pathetic situation is neither the parents nor the students are thinking of that alternatives.

As you have said, it’s very important to identify what u like to do in the rest of your life and what is not. When a student get a good z-score what he does next in applying for a state university is listing the degree courses according to the previous years cutout marks. (not according to his order of interest ).

I’m also hoping that someone will get a lesson from your post and its really valuable that u focused that points. Thanks

Lakshan, you have touched a very sensitive spot in Sri Lankan education system here. Most of people, be it in universities or government offices, are not satisfied about what they do, which leads to a miserable life and ultimately a failure to the country. Hope someone will get a lesson from this post.
