It was slow and even then painful, but the sheer novelty of "browsing" - which I didn't really quite understand the workings of at the time - was tremendously exciting. I haven't felt that excitement of seeing a webpage load, slowly in Netscape, in recent times, even with the advent of Web 2.0. Perhaps all new technology, as Arthur C. Clarke put it succinctly, is magic, and with the advent of broadband and more content (not necessarily more choice) the magic's worn off. Pity. Microsoft! :-)
