What was the first web site you visited ?

Insipired by the post of Sam I also tried to recollect the memories of early internet experiences. The first web site I visited was www.cricket.org, still I visit the site daily which is now more popular now as cricinfo.com. Connecting to internet using Lanka Internet Prepaid Card with a 28k modem was funny in the current context, but that little experience let me to a whole new world of opportunities.

Anyway can you remember what was the first site you visited ?

Yahoo.

Its ironic because I absolutely hate Yahoo these days and find myself avoiding as many of their services as possible.

Microsoft! :-)

Like Janantha, I had just got SLT dialup, though the modem I had at the time was limited to 28.8kbps. It was slow and even then painful, but the sheer novelty of “browsing” - which I didn’t really quite understand the workings of at the time - was tremendously exciting. I haven’t felt that excitement of seeing a webpage load, slowly in Netscape, in recent times, even with the advent of Web 2.0.

Perhaps all new technology, as Arthur C. Clarke put it succinctly, is magic, and with the advent of broadband and more content (not necessarily more choice) the magic’s worn off.

Pity.

I got my first net experience back in 1996 on a dialup 33.6 modem.
‘twas on my uncles pc and he had just finished setting it up according to the then service providers settings. so befor i knew what the address bar was I was at the ISP’s home page. and that would be eureka.lk :P not very exciting :D
